Sample Chapter: Introduction

The world is hungry for formulae and techniques on how to live a successful and purposeful life. The majority of the popular secular motivational books and seminars are based on the principles found in the Holy Bible, but they have omitted the fundamental principle, which is having a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. As an avid reader, I have read many self-help books and attended so many seminars searching for new ideas and answers. Each time I realised that I have had the ideas and the answers all along.

In the parable of the ten pounds given to the ten servants, with the command, “Occupy till I come,” Jesus makes it clear that if we use what He gives, He will give us more. However, if we fail to use what He has given, He will take away from us what He has already given. (Luke 19:11-27 KJV). We must make use of the authority delegated to us and the ability to exercise more.

Jesus told a parable to those people gathered at Zacchaeu’s dinner table. Luke 19: 11-27 (KJV)

“11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.”

Jesus chose Zacchaeus’s house to tell this parable because He perceived His disciples and followers did not truly understand that other events must first take place before the establishment of His kingdom on earth.

In the parable, Jesus Christ likened Himself to a nobleman that went into a far country to retrieve for Himself a kingdom and then to return. The ten servants in the parable are we Christians. Everyone born of a woman has at least one talent in him or her. You need to and ask God to show you the talents that He has deposited in you, if truly you do not know your talents. There is usually a great celebration in Heaven whenever a sinner confesses Jesus as his/her personal Lord and Saviour. Instantaneously, the raw talents in him/her are activated. Jesus’s explicit instruction was to Occupy Till He Comes with the talents.

Jesus Christ right now is in Heaven seated at the right hand of God interceding for you and me. The time is short to rightly execute the talents, Master Jesus is at the door on His way back to establish His Kingdom on earth, and to recompense to every man as his work shall be. The Archangel Gabriel is on standby to blow the trumpet (1Thessalonians 4:16), the banquet hall is ready, the hosts of heaven are excited and ready to welcome us.

Master Jesus’s Commendation

Matthew 25:21(KJV)

21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Matthew 25:30 (KJV)

30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 7:23 (AMP)

23 And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]

Which of the above commendations of the Master are you eagerly working towards? May we all in the name of Jesus hear ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Jesus Christ right now is in a far country preparing for the day when He shall return to this earth to establish His kingdom. He has left instructions for us to occupy till He comes again. One day we will have to stand before His Judgement Seat to give an account of our lives and whether we stayed busy with the work of the Lord.

The Great Commission

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV)

Before Christ left this earth, He instructed His disciples to go and teach all nations, baptising them, and teaching them to observe Christ's commandments. This commandment is for all Christians to follow. Many people within the church have attained the false idea that it is only the Pastor's duty to witness to the lost and to bring more people into the church. We need to be occupied with telling others about Jesus Christ. Instead of wondering why someone does not witness to that person we should take it upon ourselves to present them the Gospel. Who knows? - the Holy Spirit may work through us to bring that person to Christ. This is also something that we should be doing constantly, not just once a week for a couple of hours or just every once in a while.

Preoccupied with meaningless activities

The majority of us are preoccupied with the concerns of this world rather than with the things of God. Too many Christians are caught up with all that the world has to offer. We have some Christians that prefer leisure activities to church activities. They would rather be watching the latest movie from Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood, etc. rather than spending time with their Lord and Saviour through prayer and Bible reading. If we are going to occupy till He comes we need to realign our priorities in life. We should be occupying our time to do the will of our Maker.

Jesus told his disciples in the Gospel according to St. John 4:34 that “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.” If Jesus could say this, so in the same vein we His children also ought to seek His will, accomplish and completely finish His work. John (17:4) testified to Jesus saying “I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest to me.”

Beloved, is your life glorifying God on earth? The question goes to both of us - what would earth and heaven testify of us when we finish our race (regardless of how short or how long we live) on earth? No wonder Jesus, as He died on the cross, said, “It is finished.” What a victorious and triumphant statement! Jesus was perfectly obedient to God throughout his whole life and even unto his death.

The Race

Apostle Paul compares the Christian lifestyle to running a race. Evidently, he loved this analogy so much that he used running and running images several times in his epistles. (Hebrews 12:1; 1 Corinthians 9:24-26; Galatians 2:2; Galatians 5:7) Beloved, Apostle Paul was not referring to the London Olympics 2012 or Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016 in which he described the athletes obtaining a corruptible crown (1 Corinthians 9:25) but he was referring to the race of faith and the most monumental race of your life, the race whose goal is eternal life with Jesus Christ. What a phenomenal feeling he must have felt when he wrote to Timothy, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)).

As Paul came to the end of his life, his feelings were: that he had fought the good fight of life, he had finished the race that God had placed before him (Hebrews 12:1) and that he had kept the faith. Apostle Paul was feeling victorious about his life; not that his life was perfect but that he had done God’s will in his life. Paul knew that he had been faithful unto death. Paul finished the race that God gave him to run. God wants you and me to finish the race that He has given us to run, to do the work that He has given us to do while we are here on planet earth.

God sincerely wishes us to have that prodigious feeling of accomplishment about ourselves when we come to the end of our lives; or should Jesus come back before death, that we can boldly say what Apostle Paul said about his life: “I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. I have accomplished the unique task that He has given me to do.”

God’s plan and purpose for Apostle Paul were attained. He was going back to His Maker empty. Apostle Paul used all the micro seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years and decades that were entrusted to him to occupy.

Sadly many of us have not even started the race, much less running it. I pray that God will show us His mercy in this generation because we need it. Yes I know life is not without its trials and tribulations but through it all we can live a victorious life. We are living in very discouraging and uncertain times. Our resources seem scarce and hopeless. People have lost sense of where they are running to, what they are running after, and why they are even running in the first place. There are obstacles that the devil throws in our way to take us off course and make us want to give up and quit. The Bible offers us tools and the proper sources of motivation to train and challenge our hearts, minds, and souls to win. This is where this book comes in: to challenge your perspective on how you should keep everything in balance so that you can occupy your rightful position as a true child of the Most High God. Beloved, ignorance is not an excuse before our Heavenly Father - just because you do not know something, that does not mean it does not exist. God expects us to put into practice, and to use the gifts He has given us for the benefit of His kingdom. He has given each one of us valuable gifts. He has commanded us to ‘do business’, to occupy until He returns – for whose benefit? Ourselves? No, His kingdom!

The Ticking Clock

The clock is ticking beloved, the time cometh when no man will be able to work. I was privileged to hear the testimony of a young Christian Brother who shared a testimony. The testimony goes like this: This young man was running late to a crusade where a man of God was to minister. This man was held up in a traffic jam and he was flagged down by an old man at the roadside; the young man said where he was going and the old man said he was going towards the same direction. So the old man entered the car and as he sat beside the young man in the passenger seat, the old man sighed loudly at intervals. The young man was puzzled by these loud sighs and the young man commented, “Hope all is well Sir?” The old man replied, “Do you know that the Angels were given instruction by God the Father to sound the trumpet a couple of years ago? But Jesus pleaded with Him and said that the church was not ready for His second coming; Jesus reminded His Father of His blood that was shed for the church.” The young man was transfixed by this old man. The old man concluded his talk by confessing that he was one of the angels in heaven to whom God gave the instruction to blow the trumpet. Then he disappeared before the young man could ask any further questions, leaving him exceedingly perplexed.

Jesus is merciful! He does not want us to perish but to have an everlasting life. My question to you is, if the trumpet had sounded a couple of years ago, would you have made heaven? I personally, most definitely would not have made heaven, as I would not have been able to say ‘It is finished.’ Praise God for Jesus’ intervention, who is even seated at the right hand of God constantly interceding for us!

Occupying till He comes is a rehearsal on earth of how we will reign with Him in His glory. The great thing about rehearsals is that they show us where our weaknesses are and where our preparation is faulty, and they give us time to change before the real play. The anointed man of God, Dr D.K. Olukoya, once said, “The cemetery is the most prosperous place on earth,” as many people had died and been buried unfulfilled and unaccomplished alongside their visions, talents, aspirations, and dreams. They failed to occupy and do business with the pounds that the Lord Jesus had given them.

God has given us the authority to pursue our destinies and is longing to partner with a people who are courageous and confident enough to go after it. Beloved, let us ‘Occupy till He comes’; let us trade with the pounds that Jesus has given unto us. Let us use our talents, time and money for the propagation of the Gospel to the uttermost ends of the earth; let us witness to unbelievers and win souls; let us be occupied by living a life that glorifies God, do business, work hard and be diligent until He comes; share the wealth He has given us till He comes with the orphans, widows, and the poor; and take advantage of all the opportunities He has put into our hands till He comes back in His Glory.

Beloved, the world leaders have lost the plot; unending economic meltdown, credit crunch, and double-dip recession are the buzzing words on their lips. This world has one major need in these last days. The world needs King Jesus - period, end of story! Whether the world realises it or not, they are earnestly waiting with bated breath for the sons and daughters of Jehovah God to manifest by fire and by force. “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19 (KJV). The world stage is set before us; therefore let us jump up from our slumber, and diligently run the race that is set before us and claim the crown through Christ our Lord.

This book is a tool for the children of the Most High God that have been sincerely waiting for the direction of the Lord Jesus. It is utterly wrong for the sons and daughters of the Master of the Universe to be trekking while slaves are riding on horses. I decree and declare by the decree of heaven that there will be a divine repositioning in your destiny to the original position that God created for you, in the name of Jesus. I pray that the Spirit of the Living God will overshadow your mind, body, soul and spirit in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will encourage you to set achievable goals, motivate you, renew your state of mind and change your ways of thinking so that you can maximise every opportunity that comes your way, every day, in Jesus’ name (Amen).
